Five priority programs shaping our future

HSP's work spans research, education, community, technology, and foresight, with each program serving our mission of conscious, sustainable expansion into the solar ecosystem.

01
Seeking Funding

TORI (The Overview Research Initiative)

Building the scientific foundation for Overview Effect® research.

TORI represents the first comprehensive attempt to transform Overview Effect® research from anecdotal astronaut testimony into measurable, actionable science for crew preparation, mission design, and broader accessibility.

A five-stage research framework integrating neurophysiology, depth psychology, and VR correlation studies.

Director: Jason Batt, Ph.D.
For: Space agencies, crew training programs, space psychology researchers

Research Phases

  • Phase 1: Systematic analysis of astronaut accounts using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis
  • Phase 2: Integrated theoretical framework bridging physiology and depth psychology
  • Phase 3: Primary data collection from multiple spaceflights
  • Phase 4: VR correlation studies to validate and extend findings
  • Phase 5: Comprehensive research mapping and synthesis
02
Active, 6 Years Running

Overview Roundtable (ORT)

Building the global community of Overview Effect® activists.

The Overview Round Table is HSP's flagship community platform: a weekly gathering that has run continuously for six years, with 435+ registered members and approximately 35 weekly attendees from around the world.

ORT serves as both a communications platform and the organization's base of committed activists.

Status: Weekly global meetings, 435+ registered members
For: Anyone committed to the Overview perspective

What We Do

  • Weekly global meetings connecting space professionals, researchers, educators, and activists
  • Support for participants' individual "quests" aligned with the Overview perspective
  • Cross-cultural knowledge exchange and collaboration
  • Community cultivation and movement building
03
Funded, Phase 2

Overview Roundtable for Youth (ORTY)

Bringing the Overview Effect® to the next generation through immersive technology.

ORTY is a blended immersive virtual reality curriculum that helps students understand the interdependence between the Overview Effect®, systems thinking, and our ethical evolution into the solar system.

Based on five years of successful Overview Roundtable meetings, ORTY gives young people the experience of seeing Earth from space.

Funder: Agog Foundation (Phase 2 Grant)
For: Students, educators, youth organizations, schools worldwide

What We Do

  • Immersive VR experiences simulating the astronaut's view of Earth
  • Systems dynamics education connecting space perspective to local action
  • Cross-cultural youth connections and collaborative problem-solving
  • Blended learning combining VR, live sessions, and community engagement
04
In Development

System Dynamics Simulation

Modeling alternative futures for humanity's expansion into the solar system.

The Simulation Model is a proposed system dynamics tool that will allow policymakers, researchers, and diverse stakeholders to explore trade-offs and scenarios for sustainable solar system expansion.

A living model where you can ask "what happens if..." and see the cascading effects of different approaches to space expansion.

Director: Kevin Russell
For: Policymakers, space agencies, researchers, strategic planners

What We're Building

  • Comprehensive system dynamics models of space migration scenarios
  • Exploration of policy trade-offs and alternative futures
  • Evidence-based support for the Blueprint process
  • Collaboration platform for experts and diverse contributors
05
Active, Partially Funded

SHEP (Safe Handling using Encapsulated Pneumatics)

Pioneering open-source technology for space resource utilization.

SHEP is an asteroid encapsulation technology project that addresses large-scale space resource utilization. Using gas-filled membranes to capture, stabilize, and extract resources from asteroids.

SHEP represents HSP's commitment to developing foundational, open-source technologies for human space habitation.

Lead: Bruce Damer
For: Space technology developers, resource utilization researchers

What We Do

  • Developing gas-filled membrane technology for asteroid capture and stabilization
  • Advancing resource extraction methods for space manufacturing
  • Exploring applications for satellite constellation management
  • Promoting open-source approaches to space technology development
